Does a prior conviction that I had in another state count against me? Will the judge know about that?
A: A conviction in another state counts against you just like a conviction in Florida as long as the crime you were convicted of is substantially similar to the crime of DUI in Florida. The judge will ask the prosecutor (State Attorney) to research your prior record. Usually, prior convictions will be reported by other states.
