Home Invasion Suspect Arrested in Columbia County

July 18, 2010 - Macclenny, FL - The suspect wanted for 2 home invasions in Baker County was arrested late Sunday night by Columbia County Sheriff's deputies.

25-year-old Ryan Wayne Phillips was taken into custody after a 911 call from a local McDonalds lead deputies to the arrest. The unknown caller said he was at the restaurant with Phillips who wanted to turn himself in. Minutes later he was escorted to the Columbia County Sheriff's Office.

Sheriff Joey Dobson said the first home invasion occurred when Phillips broke into the home of a family of 3, demanding money and threatening to cut one of the women. The second home invasion was against an elderly couple, whom he punched and seriously injured.

Wanted since Saturday, Phillips had just been released from the Baker County jail 3 months prior to the first break-in. His prior conviction was for a sex crime in 2006 and probation violation in 2009. Dobson said Phillips wasn't known to be violent from past convictions, but a developed substance abuse issue may have caused him to become desperate.

Phillips is currently awaiting transportation back to Baker County Jail on charges of kidnapping, home invasion robbery, aggravated abuse of an elderly person, and failure to change his sexual offender ID.
