Jacksonville Man Leaves I-10 Accident Scene & Admits to DUI

Posted on Aug 20, 2010

August 15, 2010 - Jacksonville, FL - 67-year-old James Leon Odum was arrested on August 15th after he contacted police, believing he was the driver they were looking for in a recent pedestrian hit-and-run accident.

The Florida Times-Union
reports that Odum was driving early Saturday morning when the accident occurred. The victim, Anthony James Griffith, 29, was merging onto I-10 on the Irene Street ramp when his car was hit by a truck from behind.

Griffith stopped and got out, trying to flag down the driver of the truck, when he was struck by Odum's truck. His passenger, Jason Sierra, said the initial truck driver never stopped after hitting Griffith's car, and then the second truck driven by Odum also failed to stop.

Odum's passenger said he asked Odum why he didn't stop to see if anyone was injured and admitted no reason. He continued to drive home before calling police.

Griffith was transported to Shands Jacksonville in fair condition with a broken leg, fractured ribs and other injuries. Odum has been charged with a felony, leaving the scene of an accident with injuries, and a misdemeanor, leaving the scene without giving information.

During his call to police, Odum admitted to having a few beers at dinner before driving home. Investigation is continuing for DUI charges.
